South Lake Union Streetcar

Construction of Transit Improvements Will Bring South Lake Union Streetcar Service Reductions through March 2016

Beginning Monday, January 4, and until about the end of March, 2016, the South Lake Union Streetcar will have significantly limited operation due to construction of South Lake Union Transit Improvements along Westlake Av and Westlake Av N.

During this time, the South Lake Union Streetcar will not operate on Monday-Thursday between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, on Fridays after 9:00 AM, or at all on Saturdays and Sundays. At all other times on weekdays, the South Lake Union Streetcar will operate normal service.

When the South Lake Union Streetcar is not operating, transit riders can use existing Metro bus service between downtown Seattle and South Lake Union. Route 40 serves Westlake Av and Westlake Av N, and Route 70 serves Fairview Av N. Both routes operate approximately every 15 minutes, weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Visit Metro's Online Regional Trip Planner for more information about how to get to and from South Lake Union. In order to get a trip plan for buses, un-check the Streetcar/Monorail box under Advanced Options.

The City of Seattle is building a modern streetcar system that will provide new urban mobility options, support economic growth and strengthen connections among the places where people live, work and socialize. The initial segment, the South Lake Union line, opened for service in 2007.

From the fast-growing South Lake Union neighborhood to Seattle's vibrant downtown core, the Streetcar will get you where you want to go. Seven stops along the 1.3 mile line lead to great culinary experiences, unforgettable entertainment options, and retail offerings as well as Lake Union's 12-acre waterfront park.

The South Lake Union line of the Seattle Streetcar conveniently connects to Seattle's other public transit systems. Link Light Rail and the Monorail are just across the street from the South Lake Union southern terminus station at Westlake and Olive.

You can transfer to buses at several points along the route. Bus service makes convenient, useful connections at selected streetcar stops including Route 8 (Seattle Center, Capitol Hill, Central District).

There are also opportunities to connect to the local bike network along the line, including Pronto Cycle Share stations.
